Zlate roke, instalacija v poklon klekljaricam / Golden hands, installation in tribute to lace makers

Razstavo smo odprli v četrtek, 28. novembra 2013, ob 18. uri.

Razstava bo odprta do vključno nedelje 15. decembra 2013. Prisrčno vabljeni k njenemu ogledu!

I devoted almost whole November to the preparations for the placement of installation in tribute to lace makers. To put in order all received items took me a lot of time, because on my address more than 200 parcels arrived, in which together with bobbins texts, photographs, newspaper clippings, catalogs, presentation brochures, lace making tools, lace patterns and even lace were. All things had to be labeled and categorized according to their purpose: bobbins for central and other stuff for supporting part of the installation.

From the very beginning I knew that central part of the installation will represent the structure made of bobbins. The idea to change bobbins, which as the main lace makers’ working tool and an extension of their hands (such as hands bobbins are in pair also), representing a symbol of their work, in media of personification, fallowed me from the very beginning. Each pair of bobbins therefore I equipped with a band with a name, surname and place (for foreign lace makers also country) of residence of lace maker who contributed bobbins. Then I hanged bobbins on long golden threads that I've attached to a circle on the ceiling. This has resulted in a cylindrical form of gold threads witch symbolizing wealth and value, which lace makers create with their work.

Around this golden core a circular cardboard panel is placed on which I mounted what I received together with bobbins. As to peek in the middle of a huge lace pillow, through these exciting, informative, entertaining and touching stories, photos, newspaper articles, tools and products the inner life of bobbin lace makers can be revealed. The life which is as rich and diverse as lace which they produce. And just like for lace you should take a time and come closer for this exhibition to discover all the richness of its details, and open your heart to discover its beauty.

The exhibition was opened on Thursday, 28th of November 2013 at 6 p.m. I represented the installation to assembled guests and read an interesting text about the history of lace-making school Ljubljana, prepared by the curator for the urban culture in the Ljubljana City Museum Mrs. Mojca Ferle. The evening enriched "lace" writer Tončka Stanonik with a Winter fairy tale from her latest book Crosse-twist-twist-hand over and rounded up by a pleasant socializing.

The exhibition will be open including 15th of December 2013. You are cordially invited to visit it!
